This time of year comes with a lot of mixed emotions, being happy about being with family and being sad because mine is so wildly disfunctional. But looking around me and seeing all the giving that takes place during the holiday makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. At my work we have a “giving tree” where you pick a tag of a child’s Christmas wish and bring it in and “Santa” delivers the toy to a child on Christmas. Almost all of the tags are gone. We’re also doing a feed the hungry drive where you donate $10 and we donate enough food for 6 dinners for a family for 4. We have sold 200 bags since thanksgiving. Then a local radio station 98 rock is doing a make a wish drive and My brothers best friend lost his son to SIDS ( sudden infant death syndrome) about 2 months ago. They have since moved out of the house and payed for the funeral and can’t afford to do Christmas for their other son. Their wish was granted and they where delivered a $200 Safeway gift card and a $500 visa gift card for their son Kaiden and a Christmas tree. Things like this restore my hope in people and reassures me that people are still good and that miracles happen everyday. Im amazed by people and their ability to give without any thought of recieving. Unselfish acts of kindness and love make me smile inside and grow to be appreciative of things. Tis the season and I hope whoever reads this or sees this is inspired to do an unselfish act of kindness, because I know everyone who has given in recent days has inspired me to do the same. Whether you have a thousand dollars to spare or ten, a small donation to toys for tots or a local food bank or church could make all the difference in a child or a needy families life. Just my two cents on the season.
